 Minnie Driver stars as Mona Hibbard, an unlikely beauty queen destined for greatness. From the age of twelve, her aspiration to be crowned Miss America remains undaunted despite her plain looks, poor upbringing and unloving family.

 As she climbs the pageant ranks as the consummate underdog with best friend Ruby by her side, her refusal to be mistreated by her mean spirited competitors leads to retaliation in several instances of humorous sabotage.
