Dreamy and violent. Such is the tale of how a geeky Swedish teenager morphed into the shape of international rap star Yung Lean – leading the life of a legend at age sixteen. LA fame, cocaine and dollar bills all play significant parts, as do depression, death and rage. The artist Yung Lean has achieved success never before enjoyed by a Swedish hip hop artist. After putting a song up on Youtube and hitting millions of views, the weird and underperforming 16-year-old Jonatan Leandoer Håstad became the quintessential voice of generation Z, and was celebrated by the biggest names in music, including everyone from Frank Ocean to Justin Bieber.
A new feature documentary directed by Henrik Burman will tell the larger-than-life and sadder-than-Sad Boys story by contrasting old home videos of Yung Lean on tour with newly filmed content from Jonatan Leandoer Håstad's current life situation, recovering from a psychosis.
