Orlando is the lavish fantastical tale that follows the adventures of a young androgynous aristocrat during the 17th century who after a strange encounter with Queen Elizabeth I goes on a picaresque journey and fruitlessly blunders thru love, tries his hand at poetry and dabbles in politics.
Based on Virginia Woolf’s classic novel, Sally Potter’s stunning adaptation is a feast for both the eyes and mind. Hailed as a masterpiece at its premiere in 1992 it almost single handily resurrected the period costume film, gave actress Tilda Swinton - who later went on to films like Young Adam, Adaptation, The War Zone and The Beach - her big break, and is now considered a classic of its kind. Received two Oscar nominations!
