Romania, during the final days of Communism. Otilia and Gabita are students; they share a room in a hall of residence in Bucharest. Gabita is pregnant. The girls arrange to meet a certain Mr. Bebe in a cheap hotel. He will perform Gabita’s illegal abortion. But Mr. Bebe refuses their money and demands to be paid in kind.
4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days is the work of acclaimed director Cristian Mungiu. It’s a gripping, beautiful and incredibly strong drama with a brilliant cast. The film was awarded with the most prestigious prize at the Cannes Film Festival 2007, the Palme d’Or. The same year it also won the prize for Best film at the European Film Awards and Stockholm Film Festival.
