Drama
Becky Something is a 90s punk-rock-superstar who once filled arenas with her girl band Something She. Becky was the frontwoman, but the band was coming apart at the seams, mostly because Becky was coming apart of herself. The band had a hit record and Becky had the following – but as a result of the stardom she has been squandering with self-destructive behavior, toxic self-absorption and substance abuse. Becky’s ego and whirling anger led her to alienate everyone and everything around her, and when her bandmates derail on a national tour, she is forced to reckon with her theatrical destructive past while recapturing the inspiration that led to her band’s success.
Written and directed by filmmaker Alex Ross Perry, Her Smell is his latest indie music-drama that unfolds as a five-act-play and features a central uncompromising performance by Elisabeth Moss. The film premiered at Toronto International Film Festival in 2019 and has been receiving critical acclaim for Moss’ riveting performance as a punk-rock superstar.
