A colonial imperial Magistrate suffers a crisis of conscience when he becomes increasingly disillusioned with the empire outpost he serves. This disillusionment to the empire begins when army Colonel Joll arrives looking to interrogate the locals about an impending uprising. Following the interrogations, Colonel Joll orders the empire to antagonize the locals, using cruel oppression tactics that horrify the colonial Magistrate.
Based on the Nobel Prize-winning author J.M Coetzee’s novel of the same name, Waiting For The Barbarians is adapted to film by award-winning Colombian director Ciro Guerra known from his previous films Birds of Passage and Oscar nominated Embrace of the Serpent.
