Devil’s freedom feature confessions and revelations from both victims and perpetrators within the Mexican kidnapping culture. Hidden behind masks the interviewees feel the security of anonymity and give honest and emotional testimonies of their experiences of violence, horrors and corruption in modern day Mexico.
Director Everado Gonzalez combine still and silent gazes from his subjects, beautiful exterior shots of nature at sunrise together with horrendous stories and creates a powerful and mesmerizing insight into what humanity is capable of in modern times. Gonzalez is considered as one of the most important voices in Latin American documentary. Official selection at the Berlinale 2017.
