Neige is a divorced mother of three, who regular visits her Algergian grandfather who is ill with Alzheimer’s disease in the nursing home where he lives. Neige has a close bond to her Algerian grandfather who protected her from a toxic home life as a child. But when he dies, it triggers a deep identity crisis within herself and her extended family members as old wounds are brought up to the surface again. After the loss of her beloved grandfather, Neige becomes obsessed with digging into her family history, exploring her heritage and her Algerian roots.
Known from her acclaimed work Polisse, which she directed, wrote and won the Cannes Jury Prize and landed 13 Cesar Awards nominations; DNA is the latest drama from the French filmmaker Maïwenn, in which she directs, co-writes and stars in to explore her Algerian family heritage. DNA was an Official Selection at Cannes Film Festival 2020.
