Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché

About the movie

Alice Guy-Blaché was a true pioneer who got into the movie business at the very start of it in 1894. Two years later, she started directing her own films. As one of the first female directors of narrative films, many of her films were misattributed to her male colleagues and left her uncredited for her work. Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché, is a tribute and a detective story, tracing the circumstances by which this extraordinary artist has been nearly erased from film history, while also seeking to correct the record.
Pamela B. Green’s first feature, premiered at the Cannes, Telluride, New York, Deauville and London film festivals in 2018. Nominated for The Golden Eye award at the 2018 Cannes film festival, the documentary has been celebrated for its unravelling of a neglected but important figure in film history. Narrated by Academy Award winning actress Jodie Foster, the documentary tells the life and work of Guy-Blaché, reclaiming the recognition history failed to bestow.
