Book of Love, The [2016]

About the movie

After his pregnant wife, Penny, tragically passes in a car accident, reserved architect Henry struggles to find meaning in life. As he continues to work on the house he and Penny were building together, Henry is drawn to a mysterious young runaway collecting scrap parts from their site, whom Penny often talked about helping. The girl, Millie, reveals her ambition to build a raft, a project that Henry – though at first reluctant – soon is intrigued by.
The Book of Love is a beautiful meditation on life and loss, how to cope with the latter by finding meaning with the first. The film is director Bill Purple’s feature debut, following his work on series such as New Girl, Transparent and Fresh off the Boat.
