Drama, Romance
It starts off with Evelyn enjoying nature, relaxing by a brook. Following the idyllic opening, Evelyn goes to her slightly, still significantly, older lover Cynthia. By her she is bossed around and ordered to clean, do laundry and give Cynthia massage. It shows as if it’s a story about a mistress and her servant, but it’s proven that it all comes down to an erotic adventure in a sadomasochistic, yet highly loving role-playing game.
Following the critically praised Berberian Sound Studio, director Peter Strickland brings us a mixture between movie masterminds such as Dario Argento, Roman Polanski and David Lynch, with this vibrant, surrealistic and romantic-erotic drama/thriller.
