Timeless
In 1630, after a long period of peace in Japan and after the end of the clans, most samurai are considered classless after having lost their masters. Lonely ronin Hanshiro Tsugumo arrives at a feudal lord’s home to request an honorable place to commit hara-kiri, but when asking about a younger samurai who arrived before him things take an unexpected turn.
Harakiri is the jidaigeki masterpiece of Masaki Kobayashi, awarded with the Jury Prize at the 1963 Cannes Film Festival and widely considered one of the greatest samurai films of all time.
