Laurie Anderson’s meditative essay film on love and life is a story foremost about her faithful companion and best friend Lolabelle, her beautiful rat terrier. But even if the main focus of the film is a dog, a very special one that went blind and took piano lessons to ultimately give her own charity concert together with no less than five fellow dog musicians, it also dwelves into the modern society and how it’s coping with love, death and handling the post-9/11 stress affecting all the western world.
Almost thirty years after her last feature film “Home of the Brave”, avant-garde musician and filmmaker Laurie Anderson has return with a heartfelt portrait of a dog and its owner, as well as exploring all things that are vital to life. “Heart of a Dog” also won the Lina Mangiacapre Award in Venice, an award dedicated to the representation of women’s lives.
