Documentary, Women directing
In a rural Macedonian village, the last female bee-hunter in Europe lives a simple life, tending to her handmade hives in an environmentally conscious way. When nomadic beekeepers invade her land and break Honeyland’s basic rule, they threaten to destroy her livelihood and the delicate balance of nature.
Following its world premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, Honeyland received three jury prizes including World Cinema Grand Jury Prize for Documentary, World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for Cinematography and World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Originality. Since then, it has been appraised for its visually stunning portrayal of the delicate relationship between nature and humans.
