Timeless
In the aftermath of World War III, where nuclear radiation has devastated the surface of the earth, our protagonist is being held captive in an underground laboratory complex. As test subject of time travel research, he is thrown back and forth through time in search of food and resources. But with his time travelling comes a side-effect, a stream of memories, that he has no recollection of where they come from.
Chris Marker is arguably the most celebrated experimental filmmaker of the 1900’s. La jetée is on its own a great piece of essayist video-making, as well as a milestone in science fiction storytelling. This became apparent when 1995’s Twelve Monkeys, based directly on La jetée was awarded with a Golden Globe and nominated for multiple Academy Awards.
