Little Men uses a story about two young boys whose friendship is threatened by rent disputes between their parents. As the disagreement between the adults escalates, the boys’ friendship also advances, and there are subtle clues that it has reached the level of platonic love.
Ira Sachs is gradually becoming the quintessential auteur of today’s New York, using his colour palette bright and natural. This film is as equally nuanced and intriguing as any of his previous work. Sachs’ style unfussy and detailed explores the family and moral conflicts with emotional depth.
