Drama
Once again Gordon Green revisits Texas, telling the story of A. J. Manglehorn, a locksmith in his late middle age filled with grief over a lost love. It shows that Manglehorn has gotten far away from who he used to be, and this bothers him. The movie explores the complicated psychology of this aging man, partly estranged from society and loving only of his cat, Fanny.
Manglehorn aesthetically takes director David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Prince Avalanche) back to his indie roots, at the same time as it features Academy Award-winners and renowned Hollywood actors Al Pacino (Scarface, The Godfather) and Holly Hunter (The Piano, O Brother, Where Art Thou?) in its leads – the result being a low-key drama with masterly performances, and a character study beyond compare.
