Biopic, Drama, Women directing
Based on the life of groundbreaking photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, exploring his rise to fame in the 1970s to his untimely death in 1989. Through his photographs, Mapplethorpe displayed eroticism in a way that was never publicly displayed before but dealt with personal struggles of his own sexuality whilst being under the spotlight.
Mapplethorpe had its world premiere at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival and is directed by critically acclaimed Ondi Timoner (Dig!). Starring Emmy-nominated Matt Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown) as the provocative artist, who received great critical response for his performance as one of the most significant artists of the 20th century.
