Mikhail Gorbachev was the eighth and final President of the Soviet Union. Legendary filmmaker Herzog meets Gorbachev, who brought about changes that helped end the Cold War, reduced nuclear weapons and enabled the reunification of Germany. He became one of the most significant politicians of the 20th century, known for his grace, wisdom and commitment to peace.
In over 50 years of filmmaking, Werner Herzog has scarcely engaged with a politician so directly as with Gorbachev. Featured in the documentary, are key witnesses in the historic moments that Gorbachev played a vast role in. Meeting Gorbachev is a timely portrayal of a former world leader, against the backdrop of current world leaders.
