Drama
Menashe is a proud and very likable lower-class father whose biggest concern is that he might lose custody of his son after the death of his wife. With the pressure from his rabbi and community Menashe now struggles between doing what’s right according to traditions and what he wants for himself and his son. Set in the middle of Brooklyn’s Hasidic community in Borough park Menashe is a portrait of a man who can’t seem to succeed at anything in life, but that doesn’t mean he won’t stop trying.
Director Joshua Z Weinstein manage to portrait the life of a man from the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in the middle of New York in a beautiful and highly authentic manner by shooting on location and using a cast from within the community. With a sense of humor and attention to detail Weinstein show the universal and emotional core of the film that go beyond religion and traditions. Official selection at Sundance Film Festival 2017.
