Liu Jie has no idea her husband Yongzhao is leading a double life, until the day she sees him entering a hotel with a young woman. Her world crumbles - and it's just the beginning. A few hours later, the young woman dies beneath the wheels of a car. Young men were racing in the streets. As Lu Jie faces up to her husband’s apparently rampant infidelity, the police are persuaded by the rich parents of the driver of the car not to press criminal charges over the death of the girl. Only one cop who coincidentally used to date deceased girl presses for further investigation.
Chinese writer-director Lou Ye (Suzhou River, Summer Palace) makes a fitfully engaging return to "official" filmmaking after a half-decade ban, having upset the Chinese authorities with his controversial film, Summer Palace. Opening Un Certain Regard at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, Mystery stars Lei Hao (Summer Palace, Empire of Silver), Hao Qin (Spring Fever, The Next Magic) and newcomer Qi Xi.
