A young girl with amnesia is admitted to a Tokyo hospital psychiatric wing and is under the care of counselor Mayu. Mayu’s brother Kazuma is an internet-famous personality who stages viral stunts, including videos that capitalize on real-life tragedies. Kazuma attempts to boost his viewership by broadcasting an excursion into the burned ruins of the young girl’s house, but suddenly disappears. The young girl, who survived a murder attempt by her own mother is under police guard and of special interest by several supernatural events linking her to Sadako’s curse. A group of people must now find a way to stop the reincarnation of Sadako in the young girl and search after Kazuma.
Directed by Hideo Nakata, often called the master of Japanese horror with films like Ringu and Dark Water, Sadako is a return to the Ringu universe which became an acclaimed horror franchise hallmark worldwide. Sadako premiered opening night at Fantasia Film Festival.
