About the movie

Fred is a copywriter frustrated by the fact that his ambitions to be a writer is not matched by his talent. He decides to retreat to a remote winter cabin to work on first novel hoping that the weekend away might turn one of his ideas into something real. While jogging in the woods, he meets Fanny, who is a successful author who fuels his insecurities even more – she is a real writer with a bestselling novel, while Fred cannot even get further than two lines. During a power outage, Fanny challenges Fred in a storytelling contest. As the storm sets in, the night unravels as they are fueled by a growing tension to tell the scariest story in a way to show off their creative abilities. Fred soon realizes that he is forced to confront his biggest fear – that Fanny is the better writer.
Written, directed and starring Josh Ruben himself, Scare Me is a self-reflexive metafictional horror comedy about the art of storytelling propelled by the dynamic chemistry between Josh Ruben and Aya Cash. The film was an Official Selection at Sundance Film Festival 2020.
