About the movie

14 year-old Maria lives her everyday life in the modern world, yet her heart belongs to Jesus. Just like all those holy children she’s always been told about, growing up in a fundamentalist Catholic community, Maria wants to become a saint and go to heaven. So she decides to go through 14 stations, just like Jesus on his path to Golgotha. Left behind is a broken family that finds comfort in faith, and the question if all these events were really so inevitable.
Stations of the Cross is an indictment and, at the same time, the legend of a saint. Awarded director Dietrich Brüggemann presents a masterfully directed story with a radical point of view. Introducing Lea van Acken with Franziska Weisz (The Robber), Florian Stetter (Sophie Scholl) and Hanns Zischler (Munich). Nominated for the Golden Bear and winner of the Silver Bear for Best Script as well as the Ecumenical Jury Award at the 2014 Berlinale.
