Set in Alabama, after the death of her grandfather, Cynthia returns to her hometown, where she imagines that she and her partner Mary will inherit his house. But the only item she inherits from her beloved grandpa is an antique sword from the Civil War-era, as well as a letter describing its provenance, importance and proof that the South won the Civil War. Cynthia takes the antique sword to the local pawn shop where the sword catches the attention of several different parties including the black market. The sword that is considered a relic will lead them to the depths of conspiracy theories and Southern disillusionment.
Written and directed by Lynn Shelton, who has helmed four episodes of the cult Netflix series GLOW, Sword of Trust is her latest project, which had its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in 2019.
