Pauline Kael was one of the greatest names in film criticism, praised for her opinionated and feisty writing style, but also criticized for her subjective and provocative reviews. Her work spanned from the 1960’s through the early 1990’s, a time of both love and hate for the critic, struggling to raise her word in a male-dominated world of cinema and film criticism.
Kael’s words are voiced by actress Sarah Jessica Parker, with over 30 appearances from some of cinema’s greats: Quentin Tarantino, Francis Ford Coppola, Woody Allen and many more who followed and were influenced by Kael’s work. After its world premiere at the 2018 Telluride Film Festival, the film has been celebrated as a remarkably captivating portrait of cinema’s grand dame.
