Comedy, Drama
The Winning Season is a hilarious story about Bill (Sam Rockwell) who is a washed up basketball coach. He must learn to overcome his love of booze, his chauvinistic attitude towards women and his overdeveloped macho nature, in order to become a real man and give a hopeless women’s basketball team a shot at a winning season.
This seemingly ordinary basketball drama resonates with wit and truth, attitude and sharp dialogue, and perfectly toned performances.
Sam Rockwel (Moon, Frost/Nixon) is spot on with his depiction of the scruffy, conflicted coach/father/teacher. James C. Strouse won the Dramatic Audience Award at Sundance 2007 with his previous film Grace is Gone. Sam Rockwell is one of the greatest actors of his generation and has won a Silver Bear at Berlin Film Festival and the Special Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival. Emma Roberts (Nancy Drew, America’s Sweethearts) is a young up-and-coming actress and Rob Corddry (Semi-pro, Blades of Glory) is a comedian with several hit movies on his resume.
